I think I’ve mentioned a time or two before that we’re not handy people in the do-it-yourself sense of the word “handy.” But, that has never stopped us from trying. And, since we moved into a house a couple of years ago that needs some updating, we’ve become big fans of stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot. So, when someone told the Spouse about the “Build and Grow” clinics that Lowe’s offers for kids a few Saturdays each month, he thought it sounded like a great way to introduce the girls to the world of hammers and nails at an early age. {I think his plan might be to have them do the work for us down the road…}
Whatever the case, he took them to their first clinic on Saturday to make flower delivery trucks. I stayed home with the Toddler who missed the age cut-off, but these two were beyond excited to get to use real tools and and wear real safety goggles. {Also, you get to keep the very official aprons}.
I especially like the picture of the Preschooler below. There’s actually a video that accompanies it where she is saying in her highest-pitched voice, “Daddy! Daddy!! I need your help!” And, there was quite a bit of urgency in her tone, per usual.
May it never be said that any of our children are low-key.
They were very pleased to present their trucks and flowers on Sunday morning. And, I have to say. These are far better built than any of the wood crafts I’ve put together in recent years.
So, while these two have learned to build a flower truck, the Toddler has learned to build a little something of her own. Only her creation is nearly toxic.
Yesterday at Chick-fil-A she requested that I take the lid off of her sippy cup so she could drink her juice with a straw. And, knowing that this would entertain her for a few minutes, I consented and handed her a straw. For the next ten minutes or so I chatted away with my friend while she seemed quite content. Then, I looked over and noticed she was stuffing something into the bottom of her cup. Moist towelettes. She had three or four already in the bottom that she had essentially been juicing, and she was happily sipping away on her isopropyl alcohol-infused juice. Basically, she made herself a cocktail. And, she was none too happy about surrendering it.
Truly, she’s a Wonder Woman.
