Every once in awhile, one of the royal highnesses who lives with us will insist on wearing a princess dress to eat her breakfast.
I don’t really like for the girls to wear dress-up clothes at mealtimes because they too often spill their oatmeal or yogurt or whatever they’re having, but this just isn’t a hill worth dying on at this point in the summer.
So, yesterday Cinderella finished breakfast and started asking for her “tape.” And I begin searching all around looking for a roll of Scotch tape or masking tape or some other tape-like adhesive she might have misplaced. Meanwhile she was getting madder and more frantic. “No, I tan’t find my tape!!” “I need my tape!”
And, then it hit me.
By “tape” she meant “cape.”
And, once the “tape” was located, all was right with the world again… for about five minutes.
In other random news from the week, the other night the 1st Grader and I were trying to adjust her beloved “Best Friends” bracelet that one of her dearest friends made for her in kindergarten. Unfortunately, though, as I was tying it back together the stretchy cord snapped and the tiny beads that comprise the bracelet went flying all over the kitchen.
We stood on our heads looking under the refrigerator and the island and did the best we could to find all the pieces. But, sadly, we couldn’t locate a few key letters. So, for now, she’ll have to settle for wearing this:
I know it’s a little fishy, but I’m trying to convince her that it still gets the point across. I think a fin might stick closer a than brother.
