When your doctor is 4…

Whenever I had a cold growing up, my dad used to always say, “Well, I can put you on some medicine for that and you’ll probably feel better in 7 days, or you can let it run its course and you’ll be well in a week.” I found his refusal to treat the common cold like the emergency I thought it was incredibly frustrating, but I really think he enjoyed his little remedy riddles.

Now days I turn to the Spouse or to my children to discuss my ailments {yes, you should feel sorry for them}, and this is an excerpt from last night’s bedtime conversation with the Preschooler…

Me: I think I’m coming down with a summer cold.
The Preschooler: Why?
Me: I don’t know. Maybe because I’m not getting enough sleep or something.
The Preschooler: Well, I think you should eat more healthy food.
Me: That’s a good idea. Like what?
The Preschooler: Like Chic-fil-a sandwiches or maybe like Salsarita’s. And, you shouldn’t eat so many desserts.

{I didn’t realize my dessert intake had gotten so out of control, but once she mentioned it…}

So, there you have it… a prescription for wellness. A few chicken mini’s at Chic-fil-a, a little Tex-Mex at Salsarita’s, and some self-restraint on the desserts.  I think medical wisdom must run in the family.
