I’ve discovered that you can learn a lot about yourself by observing the behaviors of your children… especially when they’re role-playing. Lately the girls like to get their phones out and have {pretend} conversations with various people. Sometimes I’m surprised by the tone they use. It sounds kind of hateful, and I can’t imagine where they’ve ever heard that. {wink} Other times, their expressions show such emotion. From astonishment…
I’m especially amused when I’m eavesdropping and I hear the Preschooler {who always prefers to settle into a very comfortable position for her lengthy talks} use a phrase like, “Well, that is just ridiculous.” Clearly, she knows how to have a good, juicy conversation.
The Toddler’s conversations, on the other hand, are usually much more serious and urgent in nature. She talks on the phone much like she goes through her day… moving from one perceived emergency to another. With her, it’s just the facts, please. So, if you’re more in the mood to chit-chat, you might want to call the Preschooler.
Another startling discovery that I’ve made this week concerns the identity of the Preschooler’s beloved Lambie. For the last four years the Spouse and I {along with everyone else who has had the opportunity to meet him} have assumed that Lambie was indeed a lamb. We based this assumption mainly on 1) his name and 2) his appearance.
BUT, the Preschooler informed us over the weekend that Lambie is, in fact, a dog. When questioned about this, she defensively points to the fact that Lambie has a tail, dog-like ears, and four paws. And, since she is the one who sleeps with him every night, I suppose no one would know better than her exactly what he is. So, I re-introduce to you, Lambie, the sheep-dog:
