Sweet Toddler,
It has been exactly two years since you joined our family. Since then, you’ve added more energy, personality, and joy to our mix than we knew possible.
You still don’t have a baby book or any photo albums chronicling your first holidays or vacations. And, honestly, this is largely your fault. You are on the move at all times.
What you do have, though, is a family who loves you dearly. So, today, I want to tell you a few of my favorite things about who and how you are at two years old.
- I love that you have huge, wild hair. It just somehow suits you.
- I love that you’re unafraid to jump off the top of our bed but still terrified at the mere sight of the vacuum.
- I love that you want to read about the “big Tao” who jumped over the moon every time you see your nursery rhyme book.
- I love that you ask me to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle” only so you can “shush” me midway through the first line and sing it by yourself.
- I love that you’re two but you think you’re six. In your mind, if your sisters are doing it then you should most definitely be doing it, too… no matter what “it” is. You’ve got a stool and you know how to use it.
- I love that you have to mimic everything you see me do. You’re convinced you know how to use my hand weights. Your workout style is a little more hip-hop than mine, but you can toss those three pounds around like nobody’s business.
- I love that when we ask you, “Where’s your nose?,” you can’t just point to it. You have to stick your finger up it to show us exactly where it is.
- I love that you say “tootie” when you want a “cookie.”
- I love that you say “Hold me…,” and then whisper “nowwww” to turn your request into something of a demand. You also do this when I put you in your crib, “I wanna get out…. nowwww.” It works pretty well for you, especially with Mimi.
- I love that when your sisters or your Daddy or I leave the room or head outside, you grab your brown bear and say, “I tummin! I tummin!”
- I love that you are unafraid to create new and unusual ways of doing things. Your creativity both challenges and inspires me.
More than all these things, though, I just love that you’re a part of us.
To borrow the line by A.A. Milne,”I knew when I met you an adventure was going to happen.”
‘Tis true. And, we’re blessed to be on this adventure with you.
We love you more than “tooties” {cookies} and “shock” {chocolate}… so very much more than you can know.
Happy 2nd birthday!
Love,
Momma
