Well, summer is now in full-swing. And, I’m remembering how little down time there is in this season. Whereas my favorite time to write is usually late at night, I’m finding that I can’t stay awake to do it on these long, hot days. These people use up all my energy. Every last bit of it, every day.
I found the First Grader leading everyone in morning stretches the other day. Given their activity level during the day, it’s probably best they begin the day with some warm-ups.
Yesterday we went out to lunch with some friends and I stayed a bit past the Toddler’s point of no return in regard to her nap time. So, she was having a little outburst and threw her favorite sippy cup straight out into the parking lot. Sadly, at that exact moment a car was pulling out. So, we all watched while holding our breath to see if the car’s tires would miss the cup. We were temporarily relieved when we didn’t hear it crack. But, then… we saw the damage.
It didn’t pop, but it didn’t exactly fare well either. The Toddler told my mom the whole story about how a “tar” drove over her “tup” and “smashed it.” And, then I even heard her say, “It was an accident.” However. With her sisters and friends as my witness, that was most certainly not the case. Rather, it was a consequence of her decision to toss her beloved cup straight into the path of a moving vehicle. Perhaps we’ll learn a lesson.
On an unrelated note, I have one more picture from the week.
What I always remember the most about this first family portrait is the inclusion of a large TV, as if the television was an additional member of our family. I mean we watch our share of shows every now and then, but what in the world?
Well, fast forward three years to this past weekend when the First Grader made a special card for the Spouse with this updated picture of him and the girls.
I’ve blocked out a couple of names, but please note that the TV is still an important part of our family.
Where have we gone wrong?
The good news, though, is that between 2011 and 2014 the Spouse’s dental problems seem to have been corrected. And, look at the improvement in everyone’s hair!
I was actually in a separate part of the picture making “soop” for dinner. I would like to say that the smoke and the overflowing pot is an extreme exaggeration of what my cooking looks like, but I’ll leave the interpretation of the scene up to the artist.
I’m just floored she drew me working in the kitchen and not pulling through a drive-through. It must have been a special occasion.
