As of late, the Toddler has developed an interest in painting. This is wonderful because it requires her to be seated and holds her attention for several minutes, which so very few things do. So, I’m certainly encouraging this new hobby.
The only problem we’re having is with anger management if things don’t go as she intends them to go with her paintbrush. She’s not particular about staying in the lines or color accuracy. But, she gets furious if the watercolors don’t work the way she wants them to work. For example, if she dips her brush in red and it only comes out as light red or a shade of pink on the paper. That sets her off. And, when she gets upset about it, she starts saying, “I strewed up! I strewed up!” meaning… “I screwed up!”
And, then she paints her shirt or her leggings or the nearest piece of furniture.
Obviously, I have to stay nearby at all times.
Since she’s so drawn towards artistic expression right now I thought she would enjoy painting pumpkins with me while the other two were at school this week. And, she did…
… for awhile.
But, she saw a picture of some Sesame Street pumpkins and she really wanted her pumpkin to look like Cookie Monster.
I tried to make it happen, but we didn’t have the right kind of blue paint.
So, we wound up with a pale blue Cookie Monster. It’s kind of like an anemic version of the beloved monster. But, with a diet of all cookies I don’t feel like it’s a stretch to say he’s likely very low on iron.
Ultimately, this one was our favorite pumpkin creation.
