In stark contrast to our mornings during the school year, this is the kind of energy I wake up to when everyone is on summer break:
And, that doesn’t even account for the energy of the third one who wakes up with just as much spunk as her hair suggests.
I’ll be honest. It makes for some long days.
So, last week I got serious about coming up with a better plan for our days. I even searched on Pinterest for some crafty inspiration. And, I found plenty of clever, creative ideas… a couple of which I tried with the girls. It’s just that I get discouraged when they don’t go as planned. Like, when I tried to get them to color these cute faces…
And, someone was more interested in coloring her own face.
Or, when I tried finger painting…
…and someone started eating her paint.
I do so love my “famuley.” It’s just hard to entertain my “famuley.”
By Friday of last week I was tired of trying and I resorted to simple bribery to get us through the day. If everyone could get along for the afternoon and not complain of boredom every hour, we could go to Krispy Kreme that evening. I don’t know what it is about a donut, but it works every time… particularly with the Preschooler.
In fact, I was reading the girls a story {actually, I was trying to read them a story while they practiced somersaults on an air mattress}, and the story was about how we can see evidence of God’s love for us all throughout creation. So, when I got to the end of the story I asked them to think about things in creation that help us know we have a loving Creator. The Kindergartener, of course, was full of good Sunday School answers… “the mountains,” “the birds,” “flowers.” But, the Preschooler just shot straight with her one word answer: “donuts.” And, there you have it. The fullest revelation of God’s love for his people: the Krispy Kreme donut.
When they’re “hot now,” it’s hard to argue otherwise.
