Since we’re all still adjusting to life with a newborn, I thought it would be fun to get out of the house and do something special with just the “big” girls. So, over the weekend we took them to see Disney on Ice.
The Preschooler put her favorite crown on and was ready to go:
The Toddler had some reservations about both her crown and about the possibility of it being loud inside the coliseum. So, she kept her fingers in her ears from the time we pulled into the parking garage all the way until we reached our seats in the balcony. You can never be too prepared for a sudden loud noise at these type of outings…
I had been forewarned that concessions and souvenirs were grossly overpriced at this event. Even still, I was blown away when we got there and I saw it for myself. Did you know that cotton candy could cost $12? Yes, twelve dollars for sugar on a stick. That’s criminal. And, if you’d like a snow cone with that cotton candy, that would be twelve more dollars. Oh, and you want a program? That will be $15. Insanity. We elected to snack on the leftover Halloween candy I snuck into the coliseum by way of my huge purse. I guess that was also technically criminal behavior since “no outside food or drinks are allowed,” but in this instance I rationalized it…
Unfortunately, the Toddler got all upset when the lights went out and the crowd started screaming during the opening scene. Being ever so sensitive, it was all a little too much for her to take in at one time. So… she and I watched the first half of the show from the concession area. But, by the second half she was ready to go back to our seats and enjoy the show from our perch in section EE.
In the end, both girls loved it. And, I must say, between the skating and the special effects, it was pretty entertaining. Despite their inability to offer reasonable concessions, Disney knows how to put on a good show.
In addition to the show, I was also entertained by a text conversation I attempted to have with my mom who was at home watching the Baby. I texted her during the first half to tell her that the Toddler and I were watching the show from the aisle {which is where this conversation picks up}. But, then later in the evening she texted me back…
What I most love about this is that Mom felt the need to clarify that the Baby didn’t actually pop. And, usually, the Pacific {also known as the pacifier} works like a charm. You have to love the auto-correct feature on smart phones.
Have a great Monday!
