The Preschooler turned four over the weekend, and we celebrated with a family party at our house. This year she chose the party theme herself: donuts. Who could argue with that?
So, we started the day off with a mid-morning visit to the “donut factory,” also known as our local Krispy Kreme. I realize this isn’t exactly a major field trip for most people, but when your mom is a junk food nazi and you’re four years old, this is a special outing:
See? It really is a “factory.”
She was immediately entranced by the conveyor belt, but very concerned that one of the creme-filled donuts didn’t properly flip when it rolled off the belt. She would be excellent at quality control.
The Spouse, ever excited about the donut making process.
Then, back home for the party…
The blue one is their new cotton candy donut… just in case a regular glazed isn’t sweet enough.
Starbucks frappucino bottles turned milk glasses. Thank you, Pinterest and Goo-gone.
A little coffee to counter the sugar shock.
The birthday girl sporting her hat.
And blowing out the candles on her “cake.”
Without thinking through the clean-up repercussions of this craft, I thought it would be a great idea to decorate paper donuts using sprinkles and candy confetti.
Of course, the Baby’s goal the entire party was to eat her paper hat.
Take home boxes for everyone full of left-overs. And, yet, somehow we still have a kitchen full of donuts…
Well past their bedtime, the Preschooler and the Kindergartener were still bouncing off the walls. I’ll consider that a sign that the donut party was a success.
