Pondering with the Preschooler…

I think, at a child’s birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow
it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.  ~Eleanor Roosevelt

A recent theological conversation that unfolded, as usual, in the car…

The Preschooler: Mommy, is God in my tummy?

Me: Umm, no. God is always with us, so in a special way He’s in your heart, but He’s not really living in your tummy.

The Preschooler: (while curiously squeezing her right side)  Well, they said at church “God is on your side,” and that’s close to my tummy. So, I think God is in my tummy.

Me: (after prolonged silence) OK.

I’m just not equipped to have profound dialogue about matters like this while operating heavy machinery.

And, then on a much lighter note, another conversation followed…

The Preschooler:  Mommy, I don’t ever want to watch Beauty and the Geese.

Me:  OK.  But, why not?

The Preschooler:  I’m afraid the geese will get me.

Somehow, I think we missed the memo about the Beast.  And, I’m pretty sure the geese would be the least of her worries…
