I think the great challenge of the summer is trying to find ways to simultaneously {and harmoniously} entertain all three girls. Right now the oldest two are very interested in playing dress-up and pretend make-up, etc. Their youngest sister, who thinks she must do everything they do, tends to be an unwelcome playmate. I think this is primarily because she misunderstands the purpose of all the different primping products.
For example, yesterday I noticed she was walking around the playroom with a strange look on her face. And, that’s when I recovered this from her mouth:
I’m convinced that press-on nails procreate because I know we started out with only ten, but I’m certain I find a new every day.
Then there’s the flatiron. We all know there’s a steep learning curve when using hair heating tools, but this is definitely improper usage of the flatiron:
I believe the same could be said for the water misting bottle.
So, you can imagine how upset the older two get with her mishandling of their props.
Yesterday morning they were once again frustrated with her way of playing baby dolls, so they holed themselves up in the spare bedroom and played quietly for longer than I would have expected. I knew they had been in there, but it still caught me off guard when I went into that room late last night to put sheets on the bed and discovered this scene:
Apparently, they put their babies {plus a monkey} down for a nap and then forgot about them all afternoon. {You’ll notice one baby tried to escape but didn’t make it far before sleep overtook her again. There’s a rebel in every class}.
As I was clearing all the sleepy babies off the bed, one of them started making purring noises and blinking her very scary eyes at me. See how one of her eyelids is messed up in a disturbing way.
That’s not something you want to be surprised by late at night… especially when you can’t locate the off switch. It’s ridiculous that a fake baby nearly woke up the real baby.
So… today I’m searching for an activity everyone can enjoy and hoping for harmony. It’s 9:45 AM and so far we’ve ruled out Play-Doh and puzzles. But, the day is young.
