Playmate problems

Well, it’s hard to know what to wear or what to do around here lately since it could be anywhere from twenty to seventy degrees, all in the course of twenty-four hours. Last weekend was spring-like, but yesterday the Preschooler told me she was “as cold as a frozen pickle.” That’s really cold.
Despite the yo-yoing temps, we’ve been spending more time outside. I thought the girls might like to play “carwash” since they always love to find new uses for the spray bottle.
All was going well with that plan until the Preschooler started spraying the driver rather than the car.
Understandably, the driver abruptly abandoned her vehicle, grabbed the spray bottle, and began spraying the “cleaning solution” straight into her mouth {mainly because she knew this would hugely upset the Preschooler}. Fortunately we run an eco-friendly carwash and use only water in our bottles.

Some days these two show signs of forging a great friendship. Other days, like this particular one, we take a few steps back.

Indoor play sometimes works better. The Preschooler loves hide-and-seek, but she is perpetually frustrated that the Toddler can’t count high enough to give her time to hide. Basically, she has three seconds to get it done. Then, when the Toddler is supposed to be hiding, she typically hides in the exact same spot the Preschooler hid… on her every turn. It’s a bit predictable. But, in recent days, she has actually come up with some more clever hiding spots for herself.

And, this reminds me that I’m not sure I really want her to master this hiding thing lest we start getting too creative

Fortunately, it’s hard to hide that kind of hair. Plus, for now at least, she typically gets excited and announces, “You can’t find me!” whenever the “seeker” gets close. So, that’s helpful.

Happy Friday! Let’s hope we all stay warmer than a frozen pickle this weekend.
