This weekend we made our annual trek to a nearby pumpkin patch. I know it’s a bit early, but it’s one of the girls favorite outings of the year and I wanted to be sure and get the trip in before the new arrival. So, off we went. And, the chilly fall weather was right on cue. In fact, the hayride was frigid.
Once we got to the patch, though, we warmed up fast and began the hunt for size-appropriate pumpkins.
The Preschooler knew just what to do. So, she started her careful search and soon decided on what she determined to be the perfect pumpkin.
The Toddler, though, didn’t understand that they were there to choose one pumpkin each. So, she ran around gathering miniature pumpkins like we were at a strawberry patch collecting bushels…
“I’ll have these two…”
“And, these two…”
So, the Preschooler had to explain, “No, no. You just get to pick one!”
“Fine. I’ll take this one. Are you happy now?”
After finally choosing our pumpkins, we were off to the games and slides…
The Preschooler has never had a fear of adventure. So, she squeezed in as many runs as possible down the big enclosed slide.
The Toddler is a bit more cautious, though, and prefers to ride as a passenger on her trips down the slide.
I especially like the Spouse’s perfect form and enthusiastic facial expression above. And, that was only his first run down.
He eventually got into it.
And, then we went to the petting zoo area. The Toddler was a little unhappy with her animal selection in this photo op.
Sometimes I like to imagine what it would be like to be the Pioneer Woman and take pictures like this of my family on the farm.
But, then, I ask the Spouse what the things are that are hanging off the baby goat’s neck and neither of us have a clue what they are… and he’s already worried about sanitizing the girls’ hands before we leave the petting area… and the girls are both concerned about the strange smells… and, then, I realize… even if we had the Wranglers and the fences, we’d still be city people. Or, maybe just suburb people.
Before we left the farm I thought it would be good to get one quick picture of the girls together on the harvest display. The Toddler, though, was in no mood to smile. So, while the Preschooler posed cooperatively as if nothing was happening beside her, the Toddler began dismantling the display…
One pumpkin and one little gourd at a time…
I gave up on the picture, but all in all, the outing was a big hit…
and just another reason to love the fall.
"I especially like the Spouse's perfect form and enthusiastic facial expression above. And, that was only his first run down."
HILARIOUS!!!!
Beth: The Spouse was a trooper on the slide. I love having an excuse to just watch and take pictures. We've missed you and your humor on Mondays! Hope you're feeling well 🙂
