The First Grader has been learning about outer space in school this week. And, this is a great review for me because astronomy has never been one of my strong suits. But, after hearing what all she’s learned so far, I’m afraid she may take after her mother when it comes to this subject.
The 1st Grader: I know the planets now.
Me: Oh, really? What are they?
The 1st Grader: Well, I can’t remember all of them. But, there’s Earth, Pluto, Saturn, Martian… oh, and Cupider.
I think Martian deserves partial credit. I mean it’s at least a space-related word. The Spouse had to get all technical and start talking about how Pluto isn’t technically a planet anymore. But, I was only interested in talking about my hands-down favorite new planet ~ Cupider. Obviously, this must be the planet of love. And, I think every galaxy needs one. I also think we’d have a lot more students memorizing the planets with ease if they had such fun, sensible names. I mean, Uranus?
Cupider is so much better than that.
