It’s amazing to watch (and listen) as babies learn to talk, and then as toddlers learn to speak in short sentences… and then even in whole paragraphs. Language development is truly incredible. We go from glee over hearing a baby say “da-da” or “ma-ma” (and why does “da-da” always come first?) to having full-blown conversations with two and three year olds.
As much progress as she’s made in the language category, Toddler 1 sometimes still has trouble with those pesky adjectives and adverbs. Here’s an example from last night:
Toddler 1: I woke up little tiny today, didn’t I?
(translation: I woke up really early today, and yes, she did)
Me: Could you go get me a diaper and some wipes for your sister?
Toddler 1: No, I’m on the phone right now.
Me: Oh, OK. … Sorry to interrupt. (Even if it is a toy phone and an imagined conversation)
I deserved that one. I’ve been stressing the importance of not interrupting lately, and, as usual, my civility lesson has come back to bite me. This happens every time.
On another note… Who knew MDO and preschool would require so much preparation the night before? The Spouse asked me last night if I’m always going to be so stressed on “school” nights? Let’s hope not. But, freedom is earned, and things have to happen for all of us to be up, fed, and out the door in street clothes (with bows in our hair and lunches in hand) at an AM hour. I think I may have to get up little, little tiny next week to get some things done 🙂

Oh yes, I always forget how hard getting back in the swing of school is on ME! I plan to be exhausted for two more weeks, then hopefully I will feel better about our new routine ;o)
