Suburban Shalom

seeking peace and purpose from my little neck of the suburbs

Leaning more towards naughty…

Someone has been very busy lately. And, this excessive mischief combined with the abrupt drop in outdoor temperatures is making me think back to the frigid winter of 2010 when we I suffered a severe case of cabin fever and nearly went insane.

I can handle a few episodes of defiance. I can handle some hyperactivity. I can handle occasional spills, breakage, fights, and tantrums.  It’s the confinement to our house that does me in.

The picture below shows Toddler 2’s first seating choice for her morning viewing of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  I’m pretty sure the weight limit on this doll crib is not 27 pounds.  So, I made her get out…

And, the perch below is where she chose to go instead.  Granted, we can all appreciate an aerial view on occasion, but this did not set the tone for our most cooperative day.  (Shortly after this picture, she was playing with my phone and managed to set this photo as the screensaver.  Seriously.  I think she was sending me a message…)

She later moved on to the bathroom, her new favorite hangout to play with her new favorite toy.  When removed from the bathroom funhouse, she yells, “Blow my nose!  Blow my nose!” to justify her need for 10 yards of toilet paper. This illustrates why we will not be starting the potty training quite yet.

Later in the evening she was trying to climb into a leather chair in our bedroom.  She couldn’t lift her leg high enough to pull herself up into the chair.  This angered her tremendously, so she took a bite out of the arm. The picture doesn’t do justice to the damage… or to my calm and collected reaction.
Ever since we put the tree up, both girls have been obsessed with a motion ornament that plugs into a light and sends a tiny train around a track inside a globe.  Originally I placed it high on the tree but quickly realized this was not wise when I found Toddler 1 standing on the piano bench trying to reach it.  So, I moved it much lower so they could both easily see it.  Toddler 2, though, feels the need to touch it, to hold it in her hands, to walk around the room with it… all while it’s still attached to the master strand of lights on the tree.  The beloved 1983 Hallmark ornament doesn’t have a chance of making it through the season.

Yes, this post has largely been about you…

If we had an Elf on the shelf, I’m afraid his weekend report back to Santa would not be favorable 😉
