Johann, the Great Magician!

Coming off a summer of weddings, the older two girls have been full of questions about marriage. Hence, my lunchtime conversation yesterday:

The 1st Grader: Can you marry your cousin?

Me: Well, it’s not usually a good idea to do that.

The 1st Grader: Well, that guy Bah did it.

Me: Who??

The 1st Grader: You know… Bah. He was a magician.

Me: Honey, I have no idea who you’re talking about.

The 1st Grader: Well, our music teacher told us about him the other day, and he was a really great magician.

Me: Oh! You mean Bach? Yeah, he was a great musician. I bet that’s what she was telling you.

The 1st Grader: No. She definitely said Bah. And he married his cousin.

I told the Spouse I think maybe she has a hearing impairment. But, he’s convinced she just has a listening impairment.

Whichever the case, here’s what I know. Someone’s going to be sorely disappointed when she takes her first field trip to the symphony thinking she’s going to see “Bah” the magician perform magic tricks.

And, Bach {or Bah, if you prefer} really was married to his cousin. I did some research and his first wife, Maria Barbara Bach, was his second cousin.

So, at least we learned that much about one of the greatest “magicians” in history.
