Holiday weekend recap

Well, the holiday weekend was full of a flurry of activity… beginning with a few real flurries on Wednesday that amounted to what meteorologists like to call a “dusting.” And, a dusting is all it takes to lure the girls outside to play in the snow.

The Toddler was super excited about getting out there until she realized that would require cold weather clothing and accessories. Then, her whole disposition changed. She doesn’t have time for that sort of thing… most especially not a hat.

She spent most of her ten minutes outside concerned about her mittens and repeating that the snow was “a big mess.” And, really, who can argue that point?

We were able to make a tabletop snowman, of sorts. Hopefully we’ll see a little more snow this winter and work up to making a full size snowman in the yard. But, this was a good start.

Thanksgiving day was full of family and food and lots of fun. And, I think these three turkeys enjoyed every minute of it. They have that “the more the merrier” mentality, and they seem to love having a houseful of people here. As if they don’t have enough natural energy, they derive a little more from a crowd.

On Friday we began the daunting task of decorating with the Toddler. She immediately found a hat that suits her well. If I could find her some pointy shoes, she would make a fine elf.

We had plenty of “helping” hands getting ornaments on the tree. Of course, the Toddler has since then spent much of her free time removing ornaments from the bottom two feet of the tree. Last year it worked well to close the French doors on this room so we could all just admire the tree from a safe distance, behind glass. But, this year everyone knows how to open doors. So, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that the tree will be pretty from a distance {like say, from the road} and… interesting up close.

The highlight of the weekend for the girls was going to a local drive-through light show that concludes with a little play area and petting zoo. We told them they could each do one activity, but when the Toddler saw what she felt certain was a “big Tao!” {aka a “big cow”}, she immediately decided they should ride that. Since it was my birthday, I decided I should get to be the one to take pictures. The Spouse tried to act like this was no big deal, but I know he was just downplaying his excitement. Someone has to be mellow in the midst of this dramatic crowd. So, he and all three girls hopped on and enjoyed two bouncy laps around the track.

Since that night the Toddler has told everyone who will listen that she rode a “horsey.”

Call it a “big Tao” or a “horsey” or whatever you wish, its face bears a strong resemblance to a camel.
And, what better way to kick off the Christmas season than with some snow, some good food, family time, and a horsey ride on that sweet guy?
