The warm weather we’ve been having these past few days has been good for everyone. I know February 22nd is a little early to assume spring is here to stay, but what a gift it’s been to get outside!
With all the school closures this month and last, I feel like we’ve exhausted all forms of indoor entertainment. Even when school is out as it was again this past Monday, the Kindergartener is up and at ’em by 7:30. And, she’s not one to ease into her day. I know it’s going to be intense when she comes downstairs donning her scrubs and safety goggles and talking about doing a science “experience.”
One day I opened the refrigerator to see this lineup of liquids on the shelf:
I asked her what in the world she was doing with all these cups, and she said: “Oh, those are all the flu medicines I had to make. You need to drink yours!!”
Um, no. I think I’ll pass. But as soon as science proves that drinking Skittles water is effective in preventing the flu, I’ll know just where to turn.
On President’s Day I thought she might enjoy making presidential masks instead of doing science. She was less than happy with how Abraham Lincoln turned out, and who can blame her? As she observed, the black top hat and the black beard are “kinda boring.”
George Washington was far more interesting, and I would have photographic evidence of that. But, unfortunately, Rosie got a hold of George and did a number on the cotton balls that made up his wig. There are inherent dangers in leaving food and/or crafts out around this house.
There are also inherent dangers in taking the girls into the fragrances department of the local Belk. The Spouse had mentioned that he could use some more cologne for Valentine’s Day. So, I ran in with the girls last week to pick it up. I know which one he likes, so I didn’t need to sample every single fragrance in the store. They, of course, did and at ten o’clock that evening I was still highly flammable from the sheer volume of eau de parfum on my clothes. The next morning the 5th Grader walked into our bathroom and said, “Why do you smell like flowers?”
One wonders.
Now that it’s been over a week, I hope I’m no longer an allergen to people with sensitivities to fragrance.
Speaking of cologne and Valentine’s Day gifts… I need to include a picture of my gift from the Spouse because it’s one to remember. Here it is:
You might be thinking, that just looks like a picture of the floor of your car. Yes. Yes, it is. BUT, do you see that floor mat?
That, my friends, is a romantic gift. Some girls may need roses and chocolate to know they are loved, but all I need is a new floor mat for the backseat of my minivan to feel understood. I mean it’s not as exciting as my Tennessee leggings or a sock slider, but I’m going to get some major use out of this mat. I guarantee you it has no idea what might be coming its way. Goldfish, french fries, slime, sand, glitter, to name a few things.
If you had told me twenty years ago that one day I would have three kids, be driving a minivan, and be excited about being gifted with a new floor mat for my car, I would have said:
But, I’m thankful for what twenty years has done to me. I wouldn’t trade that Spouse or those three kids for anything in the world. Now, the minivan is a different story.
