Well, the weekend marked the start of what is arguably the best season of the year {especially in this part of the country} AND a few fun firsts for the girls.
The Kindergartener would have me report the biggest news right off the bat.
She lost a tooth.
And, this is a very big deal around here… an event she has been anticipating and talking about for months upon months. We’re all very thankful that this particular tooth was so loose that it required only minimal assistance from me to gently lead it right on out of her mouth in the Target parking lot. Please, God, may all my children’s teeth come out so painlessly. When it actually came out, she was momentarily so grossed out by the sensation and so alarmed that she had lost this significant piece of her mouth that she started to tear up. But… then she remembered the Tooth Fairy. And, her fear turned to glee.

Now, I realize that there are various schools of thought on the Tooth Fairy. And, I know that the Tooth Fairy falls into the category of myths we allow/encourage our children to believe… and this may ruin them forever. But, we’re going to need to be participants in this fantasy here for awhile if for no other reason than the fact that it helps make something a little traumatic {the bloody loss of a tooth} something fun {quick cash}.
So, the Tooth Fairy made her visit late Friday night by way of an upstairs window where she left a trail of pink fairy dust {which she is still cleaning up} and a small cash prize for the hopeful Kindergartener.
Despite eagerly watching her sister discover her prize the next morning, the Preschooler has decided she will just keep her baby teeth forever. But, that’s fine. Because the Tooth Fairy is going to need a few more years to prepare herself for the drama that will surround the Preschooler losing something as personal as a tooth anyway.
In other firsts… the Kindergartener made her first soccer goal!
I nearly missed the big moment because the Baby was attempting to escape from the field, but I looked up just in time to see it happen. She was pretty proud of herself… but only half as proud as her coach, a.k.a. the Spouse.
And, our other big weekend first… the Baby’s first trip to a pumpkin patch. We’re so enamored by fall around here that we make a couple of trips to the area pumpkin patches each year. So we have to start early. Since the weather was so nice over the weekend, we ventured out to a new {real} farm to kick off the season.
While the big girls were busy doing things like barreling down this metal slide on burlap sacks…
The Baby was entertaining herself on the swing…
Looking at the ducks, better known to her as “doggies”…
And, attempting to eat whole pumpkins…
Upon discovering that she wasn’t going to be able to swallow this as easily as her sisters’ toys, she settled for a good licking…
The only part of the experience she wasn’t so sure about was the hayride.
And, I don’t blame her. I’m not sure any of us were properly restrained for our wild ride to the patch.
