Suburban Shalom

seeking peace and purpose from my little neck of the suburbs

From two to pree…

At long last, the girls started preschool yesterday. And, I think we were all equally excited about that…

I wasn’t sure how the Toddler would do this year being in a “big girl” class and needing to do some things a little more independently. But, when I picked up her up and she was sporting both a birthday crown AND her back-up shirt {due to what was described as a “water spill” on the explanatory note}, I knew it had been a good day.
At least the stripes sort of coordinated with the skirt…
But, on to today… the real birthday. I look back at this picture taken exactly three years ago, and I can’t believe how much has changed…
As you can see, the girls just immediately took to each other. The poor Preschooler didn’t even know she was getting a sibling, let alone one who would have a bout with reflux and often cry at ear-piercing decibels. I look at this picture and I realize that she was still just a baby herself. And, I ask myself, “What were we thinking?”
And, yet, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

They have their share of bickering, blow-outs and bruises. Some days it nearly does me in. But, underneath all of the drama, they’re also forming this strong bond of friendship. They are teammates and allies. And, they will soon be united in another special way as “the big sisters.”

So, today we celebrate the Toddler and all that she brings to our family. She’s been a handful since day one, so age three promises to be full of new challenges, surprises, and adventures. And, as she would say, “It’s going to be pun to be pree!”
