I finally had a chance to get the pictures from the holidays off of our camera and my phone and uploaded onto our computer. Every time I do this I am reminded how much I love the digital age and the way it allows us to simply hit “move to trash” on those photos that are less than flattering. There were several of those. But, much to my delight, I also discovered some keepers of the girls.
I was never one to be all that into dress-up as a young child. I found it much more fun to play the role of photographer/director while coercing my younger siblings into doing the dressing up. After all, someone has to take charge if anything is going to get done. My own offspring, though, think the dressing up part is bliss. And, below are some of their enviable creations. Oh, to have such confidence…
I think what makes this outfit most striking is the bold combination of texture and color. Not just anyone can pair red with fuschia or cotton Christmas socks with black leggings and a delicate tulle skirt. Attention should also be given to the stacking of the hair accessories. Who says you have to have big hair to make a big statement?
If the shoe fits, wear it. And, if it doesn’t, wear it anyway because it has a princess on it and it makes a fun clicking sound when you walk on the hardwood. A word of caution for those wanting to try the sequined slip-ons: they do not pair well with the mini-trampoline.
Who says your toboggan has to match your outfit? Who says toboggans and scarves are for outdoor wear only? Sometimes it’s drafty in the backseat of an SUV.
Nothing helps ease the winter blues like spending a few hours in a swimsuit. Yes, you may need to wear your undershirt under the spandex just to ward off that upper body chill, but it will still do wonders to get you feeling that “life is a beach” kind of happy. (I went to wake Toddler 2 up from her nap the other day and found her in this inspiring ensemble).
Nothing dresses up nighttime like a good set of accessories. If you’ve got the jewels, flaunt them. Just remember not to eat them… even if the ring does look strikingly similar to a sucker you once savored.
And last, but not least. Nothing is as practical during the long winter months as a good pair of warm boots and a white cami. You’ll hardly need anything else if you keep those staples on hand.

These photos are all definitely keepers. I am always amazed at the ingeniuity of children, especially when you consider the same child might have recently thrown a fit over the uncomfortableness of a certain peice of clothing. Perspective is key, I have realized.
The bathing suit over the t-shirt is especially nice. I could freeze just thinking about wearing one right now, but it is cute regardless!

I feel certain that If I had suggested she wear the bathing suit, there would have been opposition. It's about perspective… and the idea being hers, not mine ๐ Fortunately, our heat works well!

I hope that last picture is not a result of your little one reading one too many US Weekly's, and seeing these young starlets out…
Hollie–your commentary is hilarious, and your girls and their costume changes are too cute! Maybe I could get their help on some accessorizing. ๐
Hollie says
Beth, I try to hide my tabloid magazines from the girls for the very reason you mentioned ๐

Hollie – I loved the comments and the pictures are adorable. This reminds me so much of Katie and Bay. Katie, of course, was always the more conservative, always matching child. Whereas, Bay was always putting together wacky outfits that we couldn't get off of her until she outgrew them (for real, ask Katie!). Thanks for sharing. They will be big before you know it, and you will miss those snowed in days once they know how to drive! Wishing you all great blessings for the New Year. Lisa C.

Lisa, we so enjoyed having Katie here for a visit this weekend. The girls were beyond excited to see her and to show off their dress-up collection. Blessings for your family this new year, too!
