Since we’re only on the second week of the summer program the girls are attending two days a week, they’re still doing all those “getting to know you” activities that help the kids and teachers learn about each other. I’m always excited {and a little nervous} when I see activities on the calendar like, “Getting to Know my Family” because… well, you just never know what might be said, shared, or, in this case, drawn.
{This is where I’ll refer back to the family picture of 2011. Notably, as of summer 2012, the TV is no longer considered a member of our family}.
Here is our family now, as illustrated by the Preschooler:
We’ve come a long way since last fall. Not only did we ditch the TV, but we’ve added the Baby to the drawing! And, you’ll see she has quite a crop of hair. The length and height are a bit exaggerated, but I understand where the artist is coming from on that one. I can also appreciate the attention to detail on the toes sticking out from under the blanket.
The older girls could nearly pass for twins, but the Preschooler explained to us that she actually made the Toddler a little taller than herself because she knew “that would make her happy.” If only we were so kind to each other in real life…
I’ve still got what I would consider a shortage of hair, but I’m OK with that because I have pupils AND I’m smiling. I bet you by next year, I might even get a neck and a waistline.
Somehow, the Spouse is always my favorite character in these drawings. {He’s the one on the far right}. Once again, he has good, thick hair. But, the best part by far is his outfit. I asked the Preschooler, “Where are Daddy’s pants?” And, she explained, “He’s like that guy on the cartoon we watched at the pizza place.”
That would be the guy you see below, Robin, the Boy Wonder…
Anyway… back to the drawing of the Spouse…
I asked the Preschooler, “Well, didn’t you forget something?” To which she replied, “Yeah, I forgot to draw his underpants.”
Yes, yes, she did.
So, I’ve amused myself to no end by now nicknaming the Spouse, “Robin.”
Pants or no pants, I think it’s a huge compliment to the Spouse that his daughter thinks of him like a superhero.
