Easter “weak”-end

Well, our Good Friday turned out to be not so good. A brutal stomach virus hit the Spouse midday. And, by midnight, I was the only one still standing. I was feeling so relieved, if not a little prideful, to have survived the virus unscathed until Easter night when I succumbed to it myself. I’m convinced that few things can remind us of the fragility of our humanity quite as fast as the stomach bug. How can something as tiny as a microscopic germ be so utterly debilitating?

Fortunately, I had taken the girls to have some Easter pictures made Friday morning before the plague hit. We’ve never done pictures with live animals before, but this year “Trixie” the bunny joined us for a few poses. I’m not sure who was more high maintenance, the Toddler or Trixie. Apparently the attention span of a young bunny is about two seconds, which is exactly the attention span of the Toddler. So, good shots were hard to come by with this combination of energy. We spent a good bit of time chasing rabbits… well, one rabbit in particular. And, then we spent a little more time chasing the Toddler. While rabbits can be bribed with carrots, the Toddler can only be bribed with chocolate, and that doesn’t really work well with pastel dresses. But, alas, we got a few sweet shots with Trixie.

We also squeezed in some egg-dyeing Friday afternoon. And, we now have a tye-dyed table to prove it. If there’s one thing we are not, it’s minimalists.

Sunday morning, while I was still feeling rather invincible, we took a few quick pictures outside.

But, that was challenging since the Spouse was still having trouble standing up and we were dealing with this level of cooperation from our people.
If anything proved simple over the long weekend, though, it was egg-hunting with the Toddler because she only needs one egg to be satisfied. Much to the Spouse’s dismay, she has no interest in quantity. She finds one egg, sits down in the grass, and gets to work on that candy completely oblivious to the competition going on around her. So, that was easy.

I hope everyone else had a healthier Easter. While this past weekend may not go down in the books as my favorite way to celebrate the holiday, it was certainly memorable… and one that makes me ever more grateful for good health and ordinary days. I won’t be taking either of those things for granted anytime soon.
