It seems to be a trend lately, but once again the girls and I spent the entire day at home yesterday. I know it’s been an unusually warm winter and all that, but the weather really doesn’t factor much into my decision to stay inside right now. It has more to do with the fact that I can’t think of any public place where I feel like I could handle taking all three girls in and coming back out with our sanity and dignity in tact. So, we stay “in.” For long periods of time.
Most days, when we have all day to entertain ourselves we resort to watching entirely too much TV to create periods of calm and to prevent fights from breaking out. But, yesterday we were more creative. At least the oldest two were creative.
The Preschooler and the Toddler started the morning off by playing with blocks for awhile and then by cooking up a tasty “picnic.” The Preschooler got all her scrumptious treats set up on the makeshift table but noticed that her waffle was missing…
As it turned out, the thief was among us…
A girl needs her carbs. And she wasn’t going to “leggo her eggo.”
Soon, the action moved downstairs where the Preschooler decided that we needed to spice up the morning with a little vocal performance by none other than…. the Preschooler.
Not everyone can pull off black patent boots and footed pajamas with this degree of confidence.
Of course, not everyone has such a talented back-up singer and accompanist, either…
Later, the Toddler got her turn in the spotlight. Her {seated} performance was much more mellow, but it’s still amazing how a little amplification can bring out the performer in the shyest of them all…
The afternoon was dragging on until I heard the Preschooler whisper to the Toddler with way too much excitement in her voice, “Hey! I have an idea. Let’s give {the Baby} a haircut!!”
I knew to follow the master stylists into the other room to oversee their plans. And, fortunately, they went for the dull plastic scissors rather than my kitchen shears.
Using a burp cloth to catch any “falling” hair, the Preschooler went to work on her unsuspecting client…
This picture makes me glad that I’m not strapped into my seat at the salon. It seems a little restrictive. I’m also not sure how I would feel about the chair I’m sitting in swinging while my hair is cut, but maybe some people like a challenge.
Like any good stylist, the Preschooler made sure to show her client the end result…
I’m not sure this is the response a hairdresser hopes for, but it was certainly a reaction…
I think she loves it. Of course, she makes that same expression every time she sees herself in a mirror, but we don’t have to tell that to the Preschooler…
By the end of the day, the Toddler had experienced enough creative play and wanted to relax by watching one of her favorite videos on my phone. It’s a random little cartoon about a group of pirates that she seems to thoroughly enjoy right now. In fact, she’s started doing her own impersonation of a pirate by shutting one eye and saying “Argh!”…
My favorite part, though, is when she says, “Mommy, look at me. I’m a pirate, and I only have one eye-bob.”
It’s incredibly hard not to laugh at her minor misunderstanding of the word “eyeball,” but everyone knows that you never, ever laugh at a pirate.
You might lose an eye-bob.

I told the Preschooler she could cut your hair tonight. You'll be in good hands.
