Despite buckets of rain, we celebrated the 4th of July by attending a local parade. Fortunately, it only misted the whole time because there was candy and other novelties to be collected.
It was the first time we had ever seen Delta Airlines represented in a parade. Their truck was handing out tiny bags of pretzels, just like those you get when you’re actually flying. The big disappointment, though, {and the Preschooler would call it a huge disappointment} was that the vintage Krispy Kreme truck that drove by didn’t hand out hot donuts. I can’t remember what they were passing out… suckers or tootsie rolls, maybe? But, who cares? As if anyone goes to Krispy Kreme for a piece of hard candy.
Other than the parade, the rain made for a low-key holiday weekend. Actually, it’s making for a low-key July. We’re struggling to find indoor activities that keep everyone entertained. For that reason, I took the girls to a bookstore last week where I saw something I’ve never come across before. Can you tell what it is?
Yes… it’s Christian hand sanitizer. All these years I’ve been using products like Purell and Germ-X… I had no idea I was promoting secular sanitizer. In case you can’t read the verse at the bottom it’s from Psalm 51: “Create in me a clean heart, O God.” And that, apparently, begins with clean hands. I know “Clear eyes, full hearts can’t lose” {we’re still wishing for an encore season of Friday Night Lights}. But, “clean hands, clean heart” is my new mantra.
