I feel like I’ve taken such a long break from blogging that I don’t know how to get back into it. It seems strange to do a Christmas recap when that was “way back in 2013” as the 1st Grader told me this morning. I think most people who blog are using this week to write about the new year and resolutions and fresh beginnings. I love the significance of a new year, but I’m not sure I have anything worth adding to those conversations when I’m still in Christmas break mode, which at this point is something very similar to “survival” mode. So, as usual, I’ll default to telling short, random stories about the people who keep my life interesting.
Before anyone could start enjoying the holidays around here, the Toddler had to remove the “gift” of a pancake that she placed deep inside the throat of her baby doll early last week. I’m not sure it applies when you’ve waited more than 24 hours to tend to the victim, but she appeared to know the importance of checking the airway before beginning treatment.
It was for sure blocked.
I also think the doll may have been suffering from a dislocation of her right leg, but the choking issue was the more pressing emergency. The removal of the pancake was complicated but successful, and so Christmas went on.
These three elves were beyond excited.
One of the Toddler’s favorite gifts this year was actually not her gift at all. When she uncovered the new Sophia panties that Santa left for the Preschooler {Santa has to be practical sometimes}, she exclaimed, “Tophia!!” and immediately dressed herself in all three pairs. Fortunately, the Preschooler was so busy playing with more interesting gifts that she didn’t notice the blatant theft of her new undergarments.
The Preschooler’s one and only request this year was for a Barbie “dream” house. If you’re at all familiar with the world of Barbie you’ll understand that Barbie’s house is far from dreamy to those responsible for assembling it. Just ask the Spouse. Barbie should be very thankful for this pad. And, she should also be very careful living in a house made entirely of plastic.
Regardless of its fragility, it’s been the source of much entertainment for this girl.
And, surprisingly, she and the 1st Grader have gotten along very well over this long break.
Of course they’ve had fights here and there over important issues like which movie to watch… Fairytopia versus Mermaidia {it’s hard when both are such classics}. But, for the most part they seem to be enjoying each other’s company. It helps when you have common interests like standing on your head for extended periods of time.
I think they also enjoy having each other as an ally in their fight against crime… primarily the crimes committed by the Toddler. Here, she has dressed like a princess to avoid looking suspicious. But, if you look closely at her hands… she has stolen the Preschooler’s Minnie Mouse gloves.
Our only hope is that her resolution for 2014 is to use more of her energy for good rather than mischief.
Here’s hoping. And, here’s wishing you and yours a very good start to a brand new year.
