The two older girls have been begging to carve a pumpkin. I’ve strategically avoided this messy tradition for 6.5 years, but the Spouse thought it would be fun to give it a try this fall.
And, so we did. And, they were just as grossed out as I thought they would be by the innards of a pumpkin.
Meanwhile, the Toddler was just very confused about the whole situation.
She couldn’t figure out why we were seemingly destroying a perfectly good “punkin.”
And, she sure couldn’t understand why I would paint one red.
But, I had a plan. And, she appreciated the end result.
I have a feeling Elmo may not survive through Halloween because he gets toted around {and subsequently dropped a lot}, but we’ll enjoy him while we can.
Despite our best efforts, we don’t yet have a carved pumpkin because we ran out of daylight… and energy. And, also, we noticed that about twenty minutes into the project our helpers got bored and ran off to do more exciting things in the backyard while the Spouse and I dealt with our pumpkin problems.
But, hopefully we’ll have a full-fledged jack-o-lantern by the weekend. The Preschooler has already requested that it have a “cranky” face, so that much is certain. Elmo may be smiling, but our jack will be ornery.
