Well, as summer officially kicks off we are readjusting to life in the real world. It’s always hard to come home from the beach.
The Toddler will be missing her tent. And, because it kept her both beautifully contained and entertained, I’ll be missing it, too.
For whatever reason, she loved staying within the three “walls” of that tent. She ate snacks and took naps… and “selfies” in it. It was the perfect set-up.
In fact, I’m thinking about setting the green tent up in our backyard in hopes that it might have the same appeal. Maybe if I get some sand and aim a big fan towards the opening to simulate an ocean breeze… Any attempt at the kind of peace that thing brought is worth a shot.
How can a child be claustrophobic in an elevator and yet OK with this situation? Like the power of the tent, it’s just another wonder of the beach.
The Spouse wanted me to clarify that these are not his real goggles. Clearly, we’re at an age and stage where we’ve thrown any attempts at beach coolness to the wind. You should see my hat. But, since I’m in charge of the pictures that go on here, you will not be seeing it.
We used to try to take official beach pictures, like the ones below from the summer of 2010. We’d all wear the traditional khaki and white color combination and head down to the oceanfront around sunset. It was a fine idea, and it works for many people. But, we’re just better suited for fall pictures in more controlled {less breezy} environments. With the exception of the Spouse, we don’t do the natural wind-swept look very well.
Clearly, we just need to stick to candid family photos.
Anyway… until next time, we have said our goodbyes to the white sand and clear blue waters.
And now we must find some non-coastal entertainment to get this summer started.

This looks like "my" beach here in either South AL or North FL. Such great memories you made – except for the fall. Glad you are okay.

Yes, we were in the 30-A area not too far over from Fairhope. You share that beautiful water. Hope your summer is off to a good start in Alabama!
