Suburban Shalom

seeking peace and purpose from my little neck of the suburbs

And, she’s three!

Dear Toddler,

It hardly seems possible, but you turned three years old over the weekend. You’re convinced you turned five, but I think my calculations are more accurate. We’re going to celebrate more officially with a family party next week, but your sisters insisted we go to Krispy Kreme on Saturday morning to kick off your real birthday. And, we agree it’s a pretty good way to ring in a birthday.

You love being outside and riding on tricycles… so much so, in fact, that you rode the wheels off your last one. So, with your help, we picked out this {fuchsia} low-rider. You seem to like it so far. Little does Olaf know what kind of wild ride he’s in for on that precarious seat.

You’ve changed so much in a year’s time. I can’t say you’ve mellowed, but you’ve certainly mastered many new things. You talk up a storm. You run fast. You absorb so much of whatever is going on around you. You are incredibly busy from sun up {or before} until sundown {or well after}.

Your favorite movies are Tangled and Booty and the Beast, as you call it. But, you’re scared of the Beast, as well as the Big Bad Wolf and the old hag in Snow White. You still love “Tophia,” more commonly known as “Sophia the First.” But, currently, your favorite character is without a doubt “Curious George.” And, I think it’s safe to say you have quite a lot in common with the adventurous monkey.

You have the best bed-head of anyone I know, which makes every morning something of a surprise.

Really, all day is full of surprises because you rarely choose to do anything the conventional way.
You told me the other morning that you were “taking your temper” with the thermometer. I can assure you it was high because you certainly have one. I’m afraid you’ve inherited that from me.
In fact, I think you tried to cast a spell on me the other day in a moment of rage about the fact that we were out of cheese crackers.
But, we love you… hot temper, free spirit, high energy and all.

You add a little fire {and a lot of hair} to our family. And, we wouldn’t trade you for the world. To the moon and back, Toddler. To the moon and back!
