Suburban Shalom

seeking peace and purpose from my little neck of the suburbs

All dolled up

Earlier this week the Toddler wanted to play hair salon using me as her victim client. So, I obliged her and then went about doing a few other things around the house. I’m used to wearing my sunglasses on my head, so I think nothing of having something up there. But, fortunately, we have a mirror in our foyer. Because an hour or so later, as we were headed out the door to run some errands and pick up the girls I glanced over to notice this feathered tiara still perched on my head.

If ever there’s been a case for putting a mirror somewhere near the door you exit from at home, this is one. It’s a wonder I haven’t gone to the grocery store sporting a tiara and sparkly plastic clip-on earrings before. I think the 2nd grader would have still hopped in the car with me at pick-up, but I can’t be so sure about the Kindergartener. Things of this sort mortify her. In fact, she’s still debating whether or not I can join her for lunch in the cafeteria on her birthday…

Ironically, though, she thinks nothing of her own liberal use of the play make-up.

She’s quite a fan of the blush. And, this is what she wears when I tell her to limit it to “just a little bit.” I feel certain we’re going to need some sort of intervention when this crew gets to the teenage years.

For now, though, I’d like to relish the early childhood years. And, yesterday was the Toddler’s first day of her toddler class at the preschool. She was adamant that she needed to accessorize with bracelets and hair clips {and baby “Bob”}.

She seemed to have a great day aside from electing not to take a nap during rest time. She greeted me by saying, “We have to be quiet because my friends are sleeping.” Yes, yes we do. And, hopefully once the excitement of the new class wears off she might find herself among those sleeping friends.
