Sunday afternoon while doing the mounds of laundry I had let accumulate {again}…
The Kindergartener: Today is your lucky day!
Me: Why is that?
The Kindergartener: Because I’m your helper!!
Me: OK, then. Can you fold these washcloths for me?
The Kindergartener: Sure. I’m a good folder.
Me: Alright, now can you carry this basket back to the laundry room and bring me the other one?
The Kindergartener: I think so… You know, it’s kind of like I’m Cinderella and you’re the step-mother.
Yeah, kind of like. Except her daddy is living and we don’t force her to live in the attic and mop floors. And, I’m her real mother… and not completely evil… or gray-headed {with streaks}. And, she has two little whole sisters, not two jealous half-sisters. And, we live in a house in the suburbs not a chateau in the woods.
Other than those few matters, I can see the parallel.
And, speaking of helpers, I have another little Cinderella who likes to surprise me by doing chores of her own choosing. She prefers ones that involve height and danger. Her new favorite “chore” is closing the shutters:
My response is always the same, “No, no, no! You’re going to fall! Let’s get down.” But, her one word explanation this time was that she was looking for “dog-gums” {also known as doggies}.
So that was completely understandable.
