I’m pretty sure the Preschooler thinks of the years prior to her birth in much the same way I think of the Ice Age… so long ago it’s almost unfathomable.
Thus, when we show her and the Toddler pictures and video of our wedding, they are both mesmerized… and full of questions like…
“Who is that?”
“Are you a bride?”
“Where are we??”
“Why are you kissing Daddy?”
“Why are you so dark, Mommy?”
{That last one is easy to answer. It’s all because I had an overly effective spray tan two days before our wedding that turned my skin ten shades darker than it would ever naturally be. Fortunately, our local dry cleaner was able to restore my dress to its original color after the big day despite the fact that it was coated in a “Malibu Barbie” shade of spray tan. I’ll forever prefer our black and white pictures}.
In some ways, seven years ago does seem like a lifetime ago. After all, that was three children ago.
And, even though we were in our mid-late twenties, I look at the pictures and think we were so young. So clueless. So… well rested.
But, mostly, when I look through the pictures I’m thinking…
Thank you, God, for this guy you blessed me with in your perfect time. I can’t imagine a better mate.
